The Reggio Emilia Philosophy

Four young children sitting on a rug indoors, engaged in a friendly conversation. A girl with a bun is touching a boy's shoulder. Several wooden blocks with encouraging words are in front. The background has plants, rainbow art, and foam boards with positive messages.

The Reggio Emilia philosophy is a child centered approach to early learning that views children as capable, creative and naturally curious. Rather than relying on predetermined activities or directing children toward a single outcome, it encourages learning through open ended play, meaningful experiences, creativity and connection with the world around them. The environment itself is considered an important part of learning, thoughtfully designed with inviting materials, natural elements and opportunities for children to investigate, create, collaborate and express their ideas in their own unique ways.
